Summary

LocalReader collects zero personal data. All text-to-speech processing happens entirely on your device using the Apple Neural Engine. No documents, text, audio, or personal information is ever sent to any server.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

LocalReader does not collect, store, transmit, or process:

  • Your documents, PDFs, EPUBs, or any text content
  • Audio generated by the text-to-speech engine
  • Your name, email address, or contact information
  • Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprints
  • Location data
  • Browsing history or app usage patterns
  • Contacts, photos, or any other device data

2. On-Device Processing

All text-to-speech synthesis runs on the Apple Neural Engine (ANE) via the Core AI framework. Your documents are parsed, tokenized, and converted to speech entirely within the app's sandbox. No data leaves your device at any point during this process.

3. Analytics

LocalReader uses TelemetryDeck for privacy-first, anonymous analytics. TelemetryDeck does not use device fingerprinting, does not collect personally identifiable information, and is fully GDPR-compliant. We only track aggregate, anonymous usage patterns (e.g., which document formats are most popular) to improve the product. No document content, titles, or text is ever transmitted.

4. Subscriptions & Purchases

In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements. RevenueCat receives only your anonymous App Store transaction ID — no personal information is shared. Subscription verification works offline using StoreKit 2 cryptographic signatures.

5. Smart Pause & Ambient Audio

When you enable the optional Smart Pause feature, LocalReader evaluates ambient audio energy levels in real-time strictly in volatile memory on your device to detect conversation and pause playback. No microphone audio is ever recorded, stored on disk, or transmitted to any server.

LocalReader does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is rated 4+ on the App Store.

Since we collect no personal data, there is nothing to retain or delete. Your documents exist only in the app's local storage on your device and are fully under your control.
